Position: Indian Valley Organic Farm & Garden Corpsmember

The opportunity: Students interested in pursuing work in the field of farming, horticulture, and/or natural resources are being recruited to participate in a unique program of study and work.  Located on the College of Marin's beautiful Indian Valley Campus in Novato, corpsmembers will work on the Indian Valley Organic Farm & Garden Crew part-time while attending classes at College of Marin. Work includes preparing soil, building compost, irrigation, propagation, greenhouse maintenance, planting, harvesting and seed collecting. Corpsmembers participate in marketing produce out in the community and developing farm infrastructure.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Enroll and pass 6 units of classes at the College of Marin (CoM) per semester.
  • Enroll as a corpsmember at Conservation Corps North Bay and participate in corps    wide activities and events.
  • Participate in both the field work and education aspects of the program.
  • Commit to working 20 hours a week on the farm (digging, lifting, hauling, bending, weeding, using hand tools) in all kinds of weather.
  • Report daily to the Farm Supervisor and carry out all assigned tasks.
  • Work cooperatively with a diverse group of people.

Desired qualifications:

  • Meet all eligibility criteria for College of Marin's financial aid/work study program.  Financial aid award must be in place prior to working.
  • United States citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  • Must be at least 18 years old at the start of the program.
  • Must have a valid Social Security card and ID.                                                                                                           

Compensation:

  • $9.00 an hour to start.
  • Eligible to earn up to two AmeriCorps Education Scholarships of $5,350 each after completion of 1,700 hours per service year in our program, if eligible.
  • Training and mentorship in sustainable agriculture, greehouse management, organic gardening, and natural resource sustainability.
  • Post-service job search assistance and support for two years after completion of the program through CCNB.

    2)  Apply and meet the financial aid work-study criteria at College of Marin (financial aid must 

         be in place prior to working.).

    3)  Enroll or be enrolled in 6 units of classes at College of Marin.
