Community Recycling Corpsmember – just the FAQs.
What is a CRC Corpsmember?
Community Recycling Crew (CRC) Corpsmembers are employees of Conservation Corps North Bay who provide recycling collection and sorting at parks, open spaces, and schools in Marin and Sonoma Counties while also earning a high school diploma through our John Muir Charter School.
What do CRC Corpsmembers members do?
Each week, CRC corpsmembers collect recycling at over 300 collection points – including parks, open spaces, and schools. These are beautiful and treasured places such as Point Reyes National Seashore and Muir Woods, as well as school campuses such as Santa Rosa Junior College. CRC corpsmembers also sort the recycling, and build and maintain recycling bins. At scheduled times during the week, members also focus on education; earning their high school diploma or other educational goals.
How do CRC Corpsmembers help meet State recycling requirements?
The Integrated Waste Management Act of 1989 (AB 939) mandated local jurisdictions to meet landfill diversion goals of 50% by 2000 and 75% by 2010. CRC corpsmembers at Conservation Corps North Bay collected and sorted over 150,000 lbs of recyclables in the past year, helping our communities reduce landfill rates.
Are these services supported by the Department of Conservation?
Yes. With gratitude to the California Department of Conservation for funding of our recycling collection, recycling education, and litter abatement services.
Can you collect Recycling at my School or Park?
W are proud to do our part in diverting recyclable material from Marin and Sonoma County landfills. Please contact us to discuss how we can partner in Marin at (415) 454.4554 ext. 282 or in Sonoma at (707) 303-3069.
What do CRC Corpsmembers receive?
CRC corpsmembers earn a living wage, a free education, job training, and may be eligible for up to $5,300 in education awards. In addition, corpsmembers benefit from two years of support in developing job skills through our Corps-to-Career program. The education award can be used pay existing or future qualified student loans or educational expenses.
