College of Marin

College of Marin has been part of CCNB for nearly 20 years. Over the years the college has offered classes to CCNB corpsmembers and provided a way for them to start on their path to college. COM is also the anchor partner in the Community Education Center at CCNB's San Rafael facility and provides ESL classes at that site four evenings and on Saturday. COM will also house the Indian Valley Organic Farm & Garden at its Indian Valley campus where CCNB corpsmembers will learn to grow healthy sustainable foods.

Congratulations to Conservation Corps North Bay for 25 years of outstanding service to our community.

John Muir Charter School

Conservation Corps North Bay is a site of the John Muir Charter School. John Muir Charter School has more than 35 sites throughout California. The charter school provides a high school education to participants in Conservation Corps, YouthBuild and Job Corps programs. Through this program CCNB corpsmembers can earn high school credit and receive high school diplomas.

The board, staff and students of John Muir Charter School congratulate the Conservation Corps North Bay for 25 years of providing excellent training and education to the young adults as they serve their community. We appreciate the opportunity to collaborate with the CCNB in preparing young adults to achieve their potential and pursue their dreams. Best wishes for another 25 years!

Marin City Network

Since its inception the Marin City Network has been a fantastic partner in helping CCNB link with the Marin City residents and programs. They have made it possible for CCNB to start after-school programs and Chavez Clubs in the schools; set up service projects for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day; and recruit both Project ReGeneration and regular corpsmembers for CCNB's programs.

The Marin City Network, is now in its third year of operation. From the beginning, the Network has enjoyed a wonderful working relationship with Conservation Corps North Bay and their dedicated staff. This relationship has produced significant projects and activities in the Marin City community and schools and has afforded so many more Marin City youth to take advantage of Project ReGeneration. We deem Project ReGen to be a sparkling gem in the crown of CCNB. So, it is with great pleasure, that we congratulate CCNB on the occasion of its 25th anniversary and we look forward to an even stronger partnership, as you transition from silver to gold.

Marin County Department of Public Works, Flood Control and Water Conservation District

CCNB was founded in response to the floods of 1982. The Marin County Supervisors saw a local corps as a way to help protect Marin County from floods. Every year Marin County's Flood Control District engages CCNB's Natural Resource Crews in months of flood prevention projects including clearing creeks and drainage areas, sand bagging critical areas, shoring up levees and building retaining walls along creeks. During a flood emergency CCNB crews work around the clock keeping drainage areas clear, removing downed trees and diverting mud from homes. The Flood Control District also provides training and technical assistance for our Youth in Environmental Service corpsmembers working with the Bay Institute's Students and Teachers Restoring a Watershed Project (STRAW).

The Marin County Public Works Department has had the genuine pleasure and honor of working with the CCNB's corpsmembers for these past 25 years. Your commitment to the community and your contribution to our youth coupled with their enthusiasm has quite simply, made the County a better place. You have created opportunities for our youth to pursue a brighter future, full of hope, growth, expectation and optimism. On this watershed moment of your 25th anniversary, we commend and praise your accomplishments and wish you many successes as you continue your efforts to help today's youth reach their goals and potential. We look forward to growing and continuing a healthy collaboration with your organization in the years to come. With the best of wishes and expectations.

San Rafael Fire Department

San Rafael Fire Department has been working with CCNB to make communities safer from fire danger for many years. San Rafael consistently works with neighborhood groups to decrease their fire risk. CCNB has partnered with the San Rafael Fire Department for nearly 15 years in this effort. CCNB crews have cleared dried brush and removed flammable exotic trees throughout the city. Corpsmembers have also painted water hydrants to make them more accessible in the event of a fire. San Rafael Fire Department has provided training to corpsmembers to encourage them to consider fire fighting as a career.

Golden Gate National Recreational Area

The Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA) has been a project sponsor since CCNB's beginning. Over the years, CCNB has built trails, restored sensitive habitat, monitored wildlife, renovated historical buildings, educated visitors and park partners about waste reduction and collected recycling throughout the park. GGNRA was the incubator for two of CCNB's programs — the AmeriCorps Restoration & Ecosystem Management and the Community Recycling Programs.

Point Reyes National Seashore

Point Reyes National Seashore (PRNS) has been a longtime project sponsor offering a diverse variety of projects exposing corpsmembers to some of Marin's most beautiful natural locations. CCNB crews have built and maintained trails, restored sensitive habitats, rebuilt the round house and sweat lodge in the Miwok village featured in our Field Education video, and provided support to the firefighters during the Vision Fire. After the fire they did extensive environmental restoration. PRNS is also an ongoing placement site for our AmeriCorps members from the Restoration & Ecosystem Management Team and our Community Recycling Crew, which pick up recyclables throughout the park.

CCNB has been an outstanding organization for 25 years. Point Reyes National Seashore looks forward to working with CCNB to ensure its future is full of success. Over the next 25 years, the park will work diligently to provide additional opportunities to help develop future CCNB land stewards.

Marin County Parks and Open Space District

Marin County Parks and Open Space District has been a valuable project sponsor with CCNB over the years. CCNB has reduced fire hazards, maintained trails and provided recycling services in Marin County's parks and open space areas. AmeriCorps members from CCNB's Restoration & Ecosystem Management Team also work with the Open Space District.

We are continually impressed with the corps and specifically, the talented crew supervisors. They have the knowledge, skill, and motivation to provide their crews with key natural resource education and ensure efficient work. It is no coincidence that some of the Marin County Open Space District’s most talented employees began their career in natural resources with the CCNB.

The Bay Institute–Students and Teachers Restoring a Watershed Project (STRAW)

CCNB has participated in the Bay Institute's STRAW Project for the past seven years. CCNB corpsmembers have the opportunity to lead groups of K–12 students in creek restoration projects gaining leadership skills and experience with high quality outdoor education and project based learning programs. The Bay Institute has also been a project sponsor for Project ReGeneration giving middle and high school students exposure to habitat restoration projects and the exotic snail removal project. In the snail removal project a naturalist teaches the ReGen members about the importance of native species in maintaining the ecological balance in the Bay.

The Bay Institute congratulates the Conservation Corps North Bay on 25 years of service to the community. We thank you for being our partners and working with us for over a decade on restorations coordinated with students and teachers. The enthusiasm and talent of your corpsmembers are an essential part of our restoration program. Your dedication and collaborative efforts have enriched our environmental science work. Here's to 25 more years of CCNB!

Bené da Silva

Bené worked as a Natural Resources Crew Supervisor with Conservation Corps North Bay from 2000 to 2004. As a supervisor Bené always focused on corpsmember development and was especially effective with high-risk corpsmembers. Today Bené is CCNB's project sponsor for flood prevention projects with the County of Marin, Department of Public Works. As a sponsor he always remembers to thank our corpsmembers for their work and is never too busy to offer encouragement to those corpsmembers struggling to leave behind risky behaviors.

I would like to express my gratitude to all CCNB staff, corpsmembers and sponsors and congratulate all for a quarter century of outstanding service to our communities in Marin. Thank You. —Bené da Silva

Sharon Farrell

It was Sharon's idea seven years ago to develop CCNB's AmeriCorps Restoration & Ecosystem Management Program at the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA). In this program AmeriCorps members are placed with a mentor in the park and spend a year doing advanced habitat restoration projects while being groomed for positions in the national park service or with other land management agencies. Today this program has grown well beyond the GGNRA and hundreds of members has benefited from this experience.

Ari Golan

Ari Golan, Supervising Open Space Ranger of the Marin County Department of Parks and Open Space, calls on Conservation Corps North Bay to get the job done with all the fire fuel breaks in Marin. The corpsmembers appreciate this because it allows them to work in some of the most beautiful locations in Marin County's open space

Janet Klein

For the past six years Janet has been a mentor for an AmeriCorps member on the Restoration & Ecosystem Management Team. Janet, a vegetation ecologist with the Marin Municipal Water District, has not only been an outstanding mentor but also has helped CCNB secure its last two three-year AmeriCorps grants by testifying during its interview wih the state AmeriCorps Commission. This has allowed more than 20 AmeriCorps members annually to participate in CCNB's AmeriCorps program.

On behalf of the Marin Municipal Water District, I'd like to thank CCNB for 25 years of service to the Mt. Tamalpais Watershed. CCNB has played a vital role in maintaining the Watershed's ecosystems, fuel breaks, and trails. Recent successful collaborations include the Sky Oaks Meadow Boardwalk and Restoration project, replacement of the Swede George and Fern Creek bridges, the reroute of the Carson Falls Trail, and the enhancement of Coho salmon habitat along Lagunitas Creek.

From the Natural Resources Crew members cutting trail to the AmeriCorps members supervising school groups, from the recycling crews collecting bottles to the Project ReGen crews pulling broom, CCNB's contributes to the physical labor needed to help keep the Watershed healthy, beautiful, and accessible to the public. In addition, CCNB consistently brings critical grant dollars, community partners, and volunteers to MMWD. The connection between CCNB and MMWD is also personal: many of MMWD's natural resource staff have worked at CCNB in the past. We congratulate CCNB on reaching this milestone, and we look forward to working with you in the future to inspire the next generation of environmental leaders. — Janet Klein
